The Phantom Menace > Return of the Jedi

The Fighting In The War Room podcast family acknowledges that Star Wars Mania is here to stay now that Disney-purchased Lucasfilm plans to spin the saga and anthology movies out into the foreseeable future. It's time to fight in the galactic war room. In the first of our Star Wars specials, Joanna Robinson from Vanity Fair's Hollywood (and the Thought Bubble and Storm of Spoilers podcasts) takes a quiz to recall The Phantom Menace followed by spoiler-phobe Matt Patches' quiz to recall Return of the Jedi. Then, the two lock horns like two sons of Dathomir to debate Patches' theory that The Phantom Menace is a better movie than Return of the Jedi. Finally, Katey stops by to kick Patches out and finally talk freely about The Force Awakens for the first time on a FITWR podcast.

A Note on SPOILERS: On a scale from Mister Patches (knowing nothing) to Storm of Spoilers (spoiling everything), this episode's final segment is in the middle. There will be a GONG SOUND 22 minutes in to warn you when that the speculation is about to happen. The rest of the podcast is spoiler free!

And we round up Cannes so you don’t have to

This week, Katey, Patches, Da7e and David want to take Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland bait and wonder if liking disaster cinema is feeding into a gross human part of all of us that is cynical and dying. Granted, that’s not what all four hosts believe…let’s just say someone should be ready for the zombie apocalypse. Also: Patches says that The Phantom Menace is a better movie than Return of the Jedi and in certain circles, dem’s fightin’ words. Finally: Katey, Da7e and Patches each mention one Cannes film they’re interested in and David talks about a good half dozen.

68 – If Star Wars Was Streaming, Why Go Anywhere Anymore?

And why the answer might be film festivals.

This week, Katey, Da7e, David and Patches are coming off that week with the Star Wars trailer. OK, Patches isn’t watching any Star Wars publicity, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t everywhere. Katey, Patches and David go to Tribecca Film Festival and only physically share the same space during a George Lucas event. Is this the year we finally deem Tribecca worthy? Then, Katey think she’s knows about Harrison Ford’s comeback because she’s seen Age of Adeline. Finally, with things increasingly made available in live stream, VOD or on the, is it worth going anywhere anymore? The answer is yes, but the scope might be narrower than you think.

Plus David’s Judgement From SXSW.

This week, Katey, Patches, David and Da7e are back in New York, and – BY GUM! – the Veronica Mars movie finally came out. While Da7e wears his backer T-shirt, stickers and stupid grin, everyone else wants to know what this means for Kickstarter movies and bringing television franchises back from the dead and onto another medium. Also, David reports on his experiences as a SXSW Competition Judge and we all dream cast someone in Star Wars: Episode VII.
