017 – How I Met Your Zeitgeist
Plus A Mid-Episode Post-Credits Scene Discussion.
This week, Katey, Patches, Da7e and David convened on Sunday to discuss the How I Met Your Mother finale and how this filmed-in-LA sitcom about friends in New York closed out it’s 9 Season run. Then, David wants to talk about just how much critics are supposed to plug into the greater cultural zeitgeist, wondering if it’s irresponsible for any serious critic to have, say, NOT seen The Avengers. That plus real American heroes and a brief discussion of Marvel’s credits scenes inspired by Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.

This week, Da7e takes a much-deserved vacation, leaving Katey, Patches, and David to worry over the government’s interference in their lives. Or maybe those are the lingering feelings left from catching up with Three Days of the Condor and Manchurian Candidate, two conspiracy thrillers reflecting Cold War and present day mentalities. After shaking their paranoia, the trio turns their attention to indie directors’ blockbuster ambitions, a discussion sparked by Darren Aronofsky’s Noah. And in a rare moment of religious positivity, a mini-segment dedicated to Bible stories that deserve an on-screen treatment. All that and a Raid 2-inspired lighting round question, in this week’s Fighting in the War Room.
