Tag: the legend of korra (page 1 of 5)

Is this the first footage of Book 3: Change? Sure looks it. Savvy Korra fan youpje uploaded a commercial from the Netherlands revealing what appears to be snippets of Book 3 interspersed with shots from Book 1 & 2. Korra spirit-bending water by some vine-covered buildings (inside RC?), Korra in an elevator, a shirtless Tenzin airbending, Team Korra standing outside a zeppelin-esque vehicle, and a mysterious figure riding a dragon. Our friends at ATLA: Annotations are convinced that’s Zuko (and Da7e is praying that it’s Zuko, because if the ATLA character doesn’t appear in Book 3, he’s going to rip his goatee out).

It’s all a bit of a tease, but with production well into Book 4, it shouldn’t be too long until sharper looks and a release date announcement are upon us. SDCC is always a good bet.

What do you make of this footage? Talk to us — it’s been awhile.

PS – Dee Bradly Baker, the voice of Appa, MoMo, Naga and Pabu, Oogi, Tarrlock, Bumi and the Radio Host was also the voice of Olmec on Legends of the Hidden Temple.

As part of it’s 20th anniversary (feeling old), Buzzfeed has a great retrospective interview with him and the Legends of the Hidden Temple host. Check it out if you want!

“I am Wan Shi Tong, he who knows ten thousand things. And you are obviously humans. Which, by the way, are no longer permitted in my study.”

I’m not sure Wan Shi Tong will be thrilled with an Airbender back in his library….

Update: JuJuSeed and Empyreankosmo say that there will be two episodes that introduce Wan was the first Avatar. To that I still wonder, how? How do we just throw two backstory episodes into a narrative that’s trucking along? What do we think will be the segue that allows for the main storyline to take a two episode break?

Book 2 will introduce the very first Avatar, Wan. He’ll be voiced by Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun.

Here is my big question: How do we get there? Flashbacks were a big part of Book 1, but they were born out of the narrative. Aang was communicating with Korra. I would suspect that, if we see flashbacks, it would be Wan needing to make contact. No willy nilly jumping backwards in Legend of Korra.

Here’s my real theory: We meet Wan in the spirit world. The background of this picture is what clinches it for me. The surreal shapes of trees and the colors of the sky…. has to be the spirit world. Right?

That is just my (Patches) thinking. Let the theories fly. How is Wan going to figure in to Korra’s Book 2 adventure?

Listen to Two Exclusive Clips From the Legend of Korra Soundtrack

First look footage of The Legend of Korra: Book 2.

Nickelodeon’s abrasive graphics and muzac don’t really set the tone here — but I like what I see. While it doesn’t have the majesty and unexpected elegance of Book 1’s Republic City setting, Book 2 promises a Miyazaki-style fantasy arc. Maybe that’s why it looks a bit more “cartoony” than Book 1. The spirit animals are bubbly and the backgrounds play to that aesthetic over the hyper-detail of RC. I’m glad their taking risks rather than replicating what worked in the first season. – Patches

What do you think?

IT’S OFFICIAL – The Legend of Korra Book One will get a DVD AND BLU-RAY Release!

It will be coming out July 16th and it’s Nickelodeon’s FIRST series to be released on Blu-Ray. As a result, they really want you to buy it, so while the DVD will have sporadic commentaries on specific episodes, only the Blu-Ray will have commentaries on EVERY episode plus eight Animatic featurettes.

There will also be a Puppet Bender short with Korra characters that will be on both sets.

The DVD pre-order is already up, well update with the BLU when we find it.

I’m not sure this is canon. But it may be required reading. – Patches

REPUBLIC CITY DISPATCH #13: ABOUT THAT COMIC CON PANEL…

Legend of Korra : Team Avatar by `lone-momo

NEW BONUS PODCAST EPISODE!

In this very special non-episode based Dispatch, Matt and Da7e re-trace the Legend of Korra 2012 San Diego Comic Con panel and discuss what this means for Books One, Two, Three and Four!

Miss the panel? TONS of it is online in video form, officially, HERE.

If you don’t want to be SPOILED at all for Book Two, I don’t know what to tell you. Everything that was in the panel is in play here as well as the entire first season of The Legend of Korra.

Which ended up being surprisingly similar to The Dark Knight Rises.

Hosted by Devindra Hardawar of the /Filmcast and Da7e and Matt Patches of Operation Kino.

Korra! Panel! Comic Con!

Da7e and Patches are on site!

Yes, Korra Is Getting Books 3 & 4

Hey, I’ve been at Comic Con. But this is true and I imagine it will be one of the first things we hear on the panel Friday (BTW – I’m (Da7e) is going to be live-blogging that panel at CINEMABLEND.COM – I’ll link you)

The word has come from an Entertainment Weekly exclusive:

Nickelodeon has picked up a second season of the animated adventure seriesThe Legend of Korra, EW has learned. After averaging 3.8 million viewers for Season 1, Book 1, which concluded June 23, the Avatar: The Last Airbender sequel received an order for 26 more episodes (which presumably will be divided into two parts called Books 3 and 4.)

The show is already set to return in 2013 with the premiere of Season 1, Book 2 (which consists of 14 episodes, finishing off the original 26-episode order)

We hadn’t heard that Book 1 and Book 2 were a 26 episode series split into two “books” because it was initially just the shorter mini-series.

BUT – this does mean there are 12 episodes of Korra down and THERE ARE STILL 40 episodes to go!

Great news for Korra fans…

… So I guess the podcast just got picked up for 3 more years? Who wants to grow old together? Am I going to name my first child after an Avatar character or a Korra character?

Dave & I (Patches) will be at San Diego Comic-Con starting Wednesday. And the plan is to definitely attend The Legend of Korra panel (obviously). If you see us, say hello!

And in case you wanted to ship identify the two of us, here’s a pic of us hugging. Send Devindra some love as he’ll be stuck at home practicing his metalbending.

My the odds be forever in your favor, or whatever.

While we’re putting together today’s Fan Reaction podcast, I ran across this e-mail from Emily that is a bit too lengthy for our purposes, but it’s great AND illustrated (above).

I’m presenting it without comment.

-Da7e-

the picture summarizes my reaction

first of all, id like to apologize for the lack of correct grammar and capitalization and all, but its almost midnight, im a teenager, and i have to go to school in few hours, so im very sorry
for me, the finale couldn’t be more satisfying. well, im a pretty open person in general, i dont complain too much about what goes down in tv shows or animes anyway, but yeah, the finale just made my saturday for me. and it was great, because i had a dentist appointment right before the premiere and i got braces 😀

i actually dont really understand why so many people complain about how the season ended. i mean, i know it was rushed, but remember that originally, season 1 was going to be the entire series, so of course things were going to be rushed, and of course the whole shipping was going to be rushed also. but thats a whole another discussion so ill save my breath
to break down my reaction:
the equalists vs united forces scene in the beginning of skeleton in the closet, was really beautiful for me. with korra waterbending the torpedo out of the water and with Iroh II going up to the whatever the its called and taking down 3 byplanes, i thought it was really well done. i was happy that Iroh got some pretty badass action scenes. speaking of iroh, i have to agree that dante’s voice did not fit him. iroh looks to be around his 20s or 30s, so dante’s permanent teenage-voice didn’t really do it for me (but i got over it) as much as i love him.
the tarrlok-amon back story, i thought, was also really well done. it couldve been really cliche, you know the whole darth-vadar “i am your father” moment, but i seriously didn’t expect “im amon’s brother.” so the back story, as cheesy as it couldve been, really wasnt cheesy at all, i thought that was another thing that bryke managed to pull off really well. they do a really good job in making someone like a character they hated for so long (tarrlok).
the rally scene, i didn’t mind at all that they didnt show how the airbending family got captured. it wouldve ruined the intensity of the scene if they showed amon capturing them. that doesnt mean i don’t wonder about how they got captured. it does arouse unanswered questions, but hey, whats a show without surprises?
korra getting her bending taken was pretty intense for me. i mouth dropped and i was just thinking, “did that just happen?” because initially, after watching the commercial for it at the end of episode 9, i thought korra was going to go into the avatar state, but nope, i was wrong.
i felt so bad for the lieutenant in this scene. he really became a tragic figure. he devoted his LIFE for amon, only to find out that all has been a lie. his LIFE has been a lie. thats gotta be harsh.

and blah blah, mako getting the better of amon with lightning bending was great, him running with korra telling her everything was okay, was great, because they were my otp from the beginning.

and then comes korra airbending. i do have a theory about her being able to airbend. so we know that amon’s “energy bending” is actually blood bending, so i was thinking that amon had done a lot of studies and experiments on earth, fire and waterbenders, and that there are different parts of the body that controls each bending element, whichs why he could take those elements away. but since tenzin’s family are the only airbenders, he couldnt have done any prior experiment on airbending, which is why korra was able to retain her ability to airbend. at least thats my guess.

and then heres when the feels started.
asamis fight against her father broke my heart. bryke essentially created ozai all over again with hiroshi. except zuko probably hated ozai more than asami hated hiroshi.
i think asami is also one of the most tragic figures in this series. she had already lost her mother, and then her father turned out to be a maniac overcome by grief and will for revenge, her boyfriend is in love with the avatar….
but theres nothing more sad then family against family. when she said, “you don’t feel love for mom anymore!” that just….i cant even find the right words for it.
and then bolin decided to put hiroshi in the list of bad fathers right under ozai.

the boat scene just crushed me. at first when tarrlok eyed the equalist gloves, i thought he was just going to zap amon (i just cant call him noatok. he’ll forever be amon). but then he started unscrewing the fuel tank and i was just like “tarrlok, whatre you doing? tarrlok? tarrlok? no tarrlok!” and BOOM! and my jaw dropped and i just stared at my tv all the way through the commercials.
and i think amon knew that tarrlok was about to kill them. the silent tear says it all. He knew that everything wasnt going to be like the old times, and he could probably hear tarrlok unscrewing the thing, but he didnt do anything, because he knew his brother was forever hurt and scarred at that amon himself deserved whatever outcome tarrlok was about to impose on them.
when korra was on the cliff, i really thought she was going to jump. i imagined a scene where korra just falls into the water, make no attempt to save herself, accept the fact she can no longer bend (except airbend), that she cant be the avatar anymore (and then mako saving her). would that have been waay to dramatic?
but instead, aang showed up with the rest of the avatar lineage behind him, which made me overly emotional seeing kyoshi and roku, gave korra her bending back and she went into the avatar state. and then the whole makorra turning into canon, and lin getting her bending back. that did it. i couldnt have asked for a better finale.

theres a lot more things i couldve said, but i think they’ll be many people who share the same views as mine, so my reaction summary ends here.
i loved republic city dispatch, you guys were amazing.

New Episode Tomorrow!

That’s right, we’ll be posting a new podcast tomorrow featuring listener reactions to the finale. Questions? Comments? Hopes for Book 2? Send’em all in and we’ll read and react to the best ones!
