Korra BOOK ONE FINALE TALKBACK!

Via

The hour long finale of THE LEGEND OF KORRA, BOOK ONE: AIR deserves a massive talkback.

HERE WE GO!

We take this moment to congradulate Patches on his newfound Tumblr GIF fame.

Good job, internet.

Um. What. Here’s the link to the interview!

Hi!

I’ve been getting e-mails by those of you who are not iTunes users and who do not want to go through the trouble of downloading the MP3 via Soundcloud and loading it onto your mobile device.

And I guess you would also like not to sit at your computer on Sundays and listen to us, which is your prerogative (I wouldn’t want to either)!

So if you look to the menu on the left, you’ll notice

RSS FEEDS!

has been added.

Click that and it will link you to our Tumblr RSS (for all your posting needs) and our Soundcloud RSS (audio only) and a direct link to our iTunes RSS (also audio only but also includes iTunes specific tagging in addition to normal XML tagging).

Look, I just don’t like Feedburner, alright? : )

Thanks for making the effort up until now, hopefully this makes things go smoother.

-Da7e-

I apologize for myself, listeners.

Here we are in a week where Korra is BACK, Bending rules have CHANGED and ratings sadly DROPPED. The fandom needs to charge forth as we approach the Solstice-slash-Finale week! (Monkey feathers!)

Anywho, as some of you may or may not know, I’m over at MTV on the 16 & Pregnant, Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2 teams (though I do not represent them in the media in any way), and as some of you may or may not care to know, this season of 16 & Pregnant is over and the new, final season of Teen Mom will start up next week.

I’m going through a work transition that – for a few days – takes up more of my time than it usually does.

So – I see your e-mails! I see new Transcription Benders! I see great theories about the series (You folks are really KILLING it in the comments sections!).

I will not abandon you.

And, you know what? I haven’t abandoned you, I just haven’t been writing back as much because there’s been other TV to make.

This will also be the last time I address this part of my life in a Korra forum. So making the best out of that, I think I should mention that this year’s 16&P final episode was one of the crazier ones we’ve done. If you want you can check it out here.

Ok, back to the world of Korra!

This comment/theory from Kaarel J via e-mail:

Hey.

First of all, at this point, I think any rationalization for Asami being evil after all is going to be too convoluted to be taken seriously. It’s an increasingly silly conspiracy theory, and actually, I found that this point of view caused you guys to neglect discussing her emotional developments as they appear to be on the face of episode 7.

The behaviors you hold to be suspicious all make perfect sense if you think things through. Having lost his wife to violence, it’s natural that Hiroshi would have provided combat training to his daughter. (This also sheds some light on Asami’s line about feeling safe with Mako earlier.) While I initially had the same impression about the race that you did, upon review, it seems pretty clear that the opposing driver simply made a risky play and failed. He hit Asami’s car, not the other way around.

I think Asami could be described as “manipulative” insofar that she seemed to take Korra to the racetrack specifically to impress her, but that was most likely part due to an honest attempt to dispel Korra’s animosity and make friends. The race was a nice, simple and demonstrative way for the writers to shift Korra’s opinion of Asami for the better.

I agree that we need more Naga. Pabu’s kind of outdoing her.

DA7E SAYS:

I disagree with you on the Asami front, but I wanted to address what you said about our doubts on Asami and the Sato family endgame made us neglect talking about Asami’s character development.

You’re right, I think, and that frustrates me a little bit, because we should have taken more time to discuss why it was the way it was and I’m feeling a bit of regret for writing it off as “Asami has a Darth Vader in Return of The Jedi” moment.

So look for Asami’s character development to be revisited in a future podcast episode, because I do think that she’s been relegated to side-episodes for her character development and that’s a big part of why I think she has a future outside of Team Korra Generation 2.

That being said, I still generally disagree. Take the last scene of “The Aftermath” as an example: It’s about Korra telling Mako to take care of Asami because she’s been through a lot and Mako quietly going back to Asami while we see that it pains Korra because she still has feelings for Mako. If Asami was equal with our three teenage protagonists, I think we’d get more of a peek into her feelings rather than just using her as something for Korra and Mako to confuse each other with.

Does she know about the kiss? Just thinking about that kind of makes my head spin.

BUT – I am not the be-all-end-all of Asami theories. You guys are. And now we have this nifty comment section on each post at RepublicCityDispatch.com and everyone can throw in their two cents.

WHAT’S UP WITH ASAMI? BAD? GOOD? WHY? Jump in the comments!

BE FOREWARNED – Discussion includes Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Promise (Part One), Nick.com’s “Welcome To Republic City” and Chapters 1-7 of The Legend of Korra.

Good Morning Benders and Non-Benders alike – SKKKKRRRTT! – Hello free non-benders of Republic City. We promise you a new world, and Equal world, where even the most vicious benders can be met in combat by our technology. And now, the voices of the revolution, Matt, Da7e and Devindra!

After episode 1, we were told to get a female perspective and now we’re hot off one of our best episodes with Emily from the AV Club.

Now it appears you would like to hear Korra talking about being Korra. So would we!

Thanks for poking us, we’re working on it.

UNTIL THEN – here’s my favorite Janet Varney stuff from recent weeks:

First, check out her Nerdist Podcast JV Club

THIS is her with the always wonderful Alison Rosen

She talks RiffTrax (and a bit of Korra) on the Spill.com podcast

and, comparing Naga to her dog (Scott) at the end of this interview, which is great.

All this and more from JanetVarney.com

If you like Korra, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the other awesome things Janet does. It’s hard to eat dinner and watch TBS without missing her.

I’m really enjoying the different interpretations of Korra’s facial structure. Just sayin’.

Expect Delays! But take this prompt!

(art by okelleok)

News, RCD Fans: news. It’s neither good nor bad, just is.

This week’s podcast will not drop until SUNDAY due to some scheduling conflicts.

But fear not, we will not abandon you this eve of the ‘shipping-est episode of Korra yet.

So – give us your opinions on this prompt and Da7e will jump in tomorrow (Saturday) in between Korra’s airing and the podcast going up:

The Legend of Korra is going to take a hard turn into relationships, which is much more fitting knowing this series is about Korra’s teenage years and her coming of age. The Avatar: The Last Airbender romance was scare and slow boiling, so how much did the creators (Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko) PLAN on driving ‘shipping fandom crazy with these characters? Keep in mind the nature of animated television means this season was finished before the fans even knew what a Makorra or Masami was.

You can contact us by going to our ask page or e-mailing us.

Good? Good. See you tomorrow and we’ll get all deep into Episode 5 “The Spirit of Competition” on Sunday.

This Video Is My Weekend! Korra! Game Of Thrones!

This video is amazing!

It’s been another great week in and out of the iTunes TV/Film Top 10. There are just a bunch of popular Game Of Thrones podcasts.

We like Game of Thrones, but we LOVE Korra.

Here’s our current iTunes rating count:

And here’s the count for the top Game of Thrones podcast:

Wanna show HBO what’s for?

Leave us a rating.

If we beat all the Game of Thrones casts in sheer numbers of ratings, I will freak out and probably do something like announce our future special guest or finally have the conversation with Matt and Devindra about what to do between Korras Book One and Two. : )

comment from lackingapoint:

Korra can’t do Airbending because she’s "as opposite to an Airbender as you can get.” Her words and that’s very obvious, lol. She’s the Avatar. Don’t worry guys. In fact, the original title of the show (as you guys addressed) was “Avatar: The Legend of Korra” but they lost the rights. You guys really DO read too much into it… Just saiyan. That being said, I do love listening to the show! Keep it up!“

“OMG. What is air?! I don’t even need it. OMG.”

1/3 The Way Through! Theories Abound!

I just listened to your recent broadcast and I just have to say this: the theory of Korra not being the Avatar floored me, not just because it’s completely out of left field but because it completely made sense. Though if she wasn’t the Avatar, why would she be having flash backs of an incident she had no previous knowledge of? – makenzie-rush

I have an interesting theory about the Amon/Korra showdown. I’m guessing that they will make their stands in the spirit world. If you think about it, Amon is clearly very connected with the spirits, and Korra needs to get in touch with them. Is there any real justification in that? – thetolkiengeek

Did y’all notice that the hat Korra’s wearing while at the Equalist rally in ep. 103 has a LEAF on it? I think it’s a reference to ep. 102 where Korra needs to “be like the leaf” and how she is gradually becoming an Airbender (what with escaping the island shows freedom and she’s starting to avoid attacks, like the doorman with the monkeywrench). I just thought it was one of those cool subtle things the creators put in to hint that Korra is becoming an Airbender without her or us realizing it. – Anonymous comment

I wonder if the series will transition or jump to a “Great Depression”-like era. Since each season of this series will have its own plot and goals, maybe one season’s specific goal is for Korra to help the citizens of Republic City to get back on their feet and help create jobs again. I know it sounds kinda boring but it would be an interesting political situation for Korra (who btw might become a high-ranking political figure in Republic City later in life) to be in. – Anonymous Comment

I think the possibility of Amon being descended from a previous character is unlikely; I almost hope he isn’t, because it would feel almost shoddy. Mike and Bryan are more creative than that. I don’t know that Amon is working with Koh, either, but I think his claim of being in cahoots with something spiritual provides the perfect opportunity to bring Koh back. – amandakthompson

I’m with you that the spirits are probably at play here. It’s a strong possibility that Amon doesn’t buy into his own rhetoric and that it’s just propaganda, but maybe he really WAS contacted by a spirit that fed him these (most likely) lies in order to manipulate him to its will. It isn’t far-fetched to assume that perhaps a spirit is making a power-play of some sort here. Also; I don’t think that Republic City being out of whack has anything to do with the exclusion of fire and air. Personally, I think it’s a conflict of society vs. nature. Bending and all things spiritual are part of nature, and as the city progresses further into its industrial revolution nature (and the spiritual) is left behind. Korra’s difficulty with the spiritual side of being the avatar is a literary device mirroring this loss of balance. As she learns balance she can begin to restore it. – slightlypsychicparade

What most people don’t remember is that when Legend of Korra first started development and production that it was intended by the creators to be a 12 episode mini-series. This should explain the somewhat quick paced character, relationship, and narrative development. Most of the first season is most likely still following the mini series formula. Whether we will see more chances for continuity between this season and season 2 is still highly possible later in this season. – lminor3d
