Strange and slightly unsettling theory that occured to me when you mentioned the world no longer needing an Avatar: What if it’s not that Korra isn’t the Avatar, but that she *is* and must choose not to be? What if Korra must allow herself to lose her bending, and learn that her power is not in mystical abilities, but in her own personality– and this is what makes her worthy of being a leader of benders and non-benders both? It does seem thematically apt, albeit terribly bittersweet.

Yes. I really like the storytelling complexities about what you’re saying. I don’t know that I (or anyone) know has enough hints from the four episodes already broadcast, but I’d be all in for this kind of twist.
Although I may not be too much on the “Korra is not the Avatar” Matt Patches theory train, I do think that Korra has to deal with something no other Avatar has had to deal with before, and that’s Republic City.
So, I think Aang changed something about being Avatar and we’ll spend this season figuring out what that is.
I’ll go with whatever theory tells me the best story! : )
