#3: A Voice In The Night

This week, we’ll be covering Chapter 4 of Book One: Air “The Voice In The Night.” Is Republic City drawing closer to all out war? Can The Avatar master Airbending in time to unite the city her predecessor created? This and more with our three hosts the constant consumers of Kwan’s Cuisine, Matt, Dave and Devindra!

“I have wanted to draw this for a long time. XD; My first expression of BodyBalance = I was convinced I was a bender of some sort. Lol.”

I enjoy your theories of what is to be on the show but I don’t think Korra and Amon would became allies even reluctantly. (not saying it can’t happen and Korra would probably try if the need arouse) see Korra is every thing Amon stands against.most likely would not want or feel that he doesn’t her help, need which i feel may be what leads to his downfall. But more importantly they are antitheses. While there goals seem similar, they are very different.See besides Korra being more physical and Amon more spiritual, but they are not just Characters(really cool one) but representations of Ideals. Such as Korra as “Balance” and Amon as “Order”,”freedom” vs.”equality”, and etc. See I my mind Korra greatest treat is not the Equalist and Amon the people but the Movement itself. Also Amon is just disfigured, he is like V from V for Vendentta. ”

Awwww. Bolin doesn’t need a scarf when he has Pabu’s tail.

I think it would also make sense if Amon was a descendent of Azula. We do not know what happened to Azula, and she would know about the ability to take away someone’s bending. She would also be very motivated to find a way to take the avatar’s bending away, and Amon’s movements reminded me heavily of the way Azula moved. Obviously, it’s just another theory.

I’m secretly missing Azula already.

The Avatar Wika says that according to a Nick.com game that was running at the time A:TLA ended, Azula was admitted to that world’s equivalent of a mental hospital.

But the last time we saw her she was freaking out, all chained up.

(not counting awesome Azula Vs. Mass Effect fan art)

And you can’t be as in to exploring the Tumblr Avatar fan community as I am without being staggered by the Azula Alphabet over at History Miss. I’m not even close to done reading it. It’s a fantastic blend of fan fic and A: TLA fandom.

Anywho – I’d love to see Azula back and/or a character on the show take over Azula’s malice and megalomania. But I’m not sure I want her to be a descendant of Amon…or Mako. Those two characters seem to have Daddy issues like Bruce Wayne, and I can’t imagine you get Daddy issues if Azula is your mother. Azula would give them Mommy issues.

Pabu’s “Missing Bolin” sign really makes this.

Awwwwww! Chief Beifong LIVES! : )

bryankonietzko:

Han Young Ja, our longtime friend and colleague, the general manager at Studio Mir, provided some inspiration for Lin Beifong’s character design (but not her personality, I assure you). Mir responded to the response of the response with a little Photoshop fun.

Who is she??

This was the closest we’ll get to an official comment about the Korra Episode 4 leak from Series co-creator Bryan Konietzko. He put it on his Tumblr

Thank you for not contributing to faceless kittens!

We’ll see you tomorrow with a new podcast after the episode airs for reals.

This is…kind of amazingly awesome.

Now where’s my Mako scarf?

Question For The Next Podcast: Hey Devindra, Dave, & Matt. How are you? Hope you’re all well. For the sake of discussion: Thinking ahead a bit, what are your thoughts on Amon possibly attempting to take Korra’s bending away while she’s in the Avatar state?

Hmmmm. I have a feeling we will happen across this for tomorrow’s podcast. If the teaser at the end of last week’s episode was anything other than a dream sequence, Amon and Korra will be placed in direct opposition to each other.

And I keep assuming we’ll have to talk about The Avatar State sometime soon, but this past Monday, Matt Patches told me his current favorite pet theory and I told him it was crazy, that he was crazy, and that if he brings it up on the podcast tomorrow, you’ll all call him crazy.

So although I’m not answering your question specifically, I have used it as a way to tease tomorrow’s podcast, which will be up sometime after Korra airs on Nickelodeon at 11AM. : )

But, yeah, hurting Korra’s bending during The Avatar State could have horrible consequences knowing what we do about causing permanent damage to the Avatar. I’m sure that’s a threat and could possibly stop the creation of new Avatars? Maybe?

This discussion: to be continued.

When does the narwhal bacon?

Hi Reddit!

Welcome to the Republic City Dispatch blog, we see you and recognize the call. I hope y’all have been enjoying The Legend of Korra and our podcast.

-Da7e-

Two questions! Just 2 I promise :p 1- Could you please tell us what the audience rate was for Episode 3? I wanna know if it’s doing well :) and 2- I’m so new to Korra so I don’t know of many places to get news, and reviews…I just discovered you today! so could you please recommend me some blogs/websites about LoK? Thanks in advance! =D

Hey! I can answer one of your two questions definitively!

1. Episode 3 –  3.546 million viewers, 0.91 A18-49 (#1 on the network for the day)

2. I’m kind of new to this all too and we’re all new to Korra relatively, so I’m not sure I can link to nuggets beyond a Google search quuuuiiiitttee yet (I plan to). Now, I’ve just been navigating around by clicking the names of people who contact us, searching tags or habitually checking Korra Nation and Nick.com like a madman.

But I wanted to get you those numbers as soon as I found them, so I’m kind of copping out on that second question. Please don’t Tear Bend.

-Da7e-

You know who really needs a better sense of humor or sarcasm? MAKO. Seriously. He’s too Zuko-ish. But that’s also a bonus for me :) maybe throw some Sokka-ness in there sometime. I’d be game for it :)

Ah, Mako. I’d like him to be less Zuko. Which I mention in Episode 1 of the podcast. It’s not like his father horribly scarred his face or anything. Live it up, man! Where’s your Pabu equivalent?

Also, here’s some fan art of Mako by GymLeaderEmma:

are you uploading a new Korra podcast tonight?

No we are not. Episode 4 “A Voice In The Night” HAS NOT AIRED YET.

11PM Saturday on Nickelodeon the 4th episode of The Legend of Korra airs for everyone and our podcast will be up as quickly after that as we can get it.

We’ve been waiting for Korra for years, we can all wait two more days.

OR think about it THIS way: If it’s so hard to wait for the next new episode of Korra, yeah you can watch Episode 4 now, but that just means you have to wait 2 days longer for Episode 5, right?

Either way waiting makes us Tear Bend. : )

I just read your post about transcriptions and would like to suggest that you ask for some help from your fans! I’d be more than happy to volunteer some time to listen to a portion of the podcasts (which are quickly becoming almost as anticipated as the episodes for me) and transcribe them. Perhaps not the entire length because, as you said, that is a lot of words to write down! However, maybe if you had a team that could split up the work a text version could be released after a short delay?

(talking about THIS POST)

Hmmmmm. Well that would be lovely if someone wants to set that up.

I feel like Patches, Devindra and I have our plates full trying to make the show and stay in touch with all of you. BUT:

If you are a proficient transcriber or are just as COOL TO FELLOW FANS as Abundance Of Vowels, e-mail me.

When the next podcast posts, I’ll put everyone that volunteers into an e-mail chain.

This is perfect! I can be a rallying point!

-Da7e-

I found it suspicious that the spirits would grant a non-avatar, let alone a non-bender to be able to take away the bending from anybody through means of revenge. From the previous series the viewers saw the spirits as mysterious but mostly wise and gentle beings, who very rarely intervened with anyone but the avatar. Could Amon be staging this to get an uprising from the poeple? The child did say that the three gangs were “muscling up for something real big”. It has holes, but it is possible.

I agree!

I also think that if both Benders and Non-Benders turn from the Spirits, someone in the Spirit world might get restless enough to turn to an orphaned child full of rage.

Either way, Amon is the big bad and I think we’ll be dealing with the apparent lack of Spirits at some point in the series. Maybe Book One is dealing with Amon and once we know about him, we’ll have to wait for the next Book before we learn why Republic City is so spiritually lacking?

As for the gangs, I hope they’re muscling up for an all out war: Metalbenders against Triads against Chi-Blockers. Thing is, we still don’t know whose side Korra would be on in that case, and maybe the next few episodes are her struggling with that choice.

But, yeah, I have no idea, Korra could go full Batman on Saturday, I haven’t watched the leaks and have been staying off Tumblr. : )

EDIT: Well…it’s supposed to be o_o

“First of all, your podcast is great. And you actually got in the mood of the series and forseen the opening style! That’s amazing. Thanks for compiling all the theories about Amon and his identity and the way he took away bending. Here’s mine (purely for fun and for exploiting the Amon meme)”

This style is WIN!

Beautiful!

Have you ever heard of crack shipping? I mean, it was pretty common throughout A:TLA, you’d think the LOK would attract its own. Well, pretty much every fandom(that’s large and/or crazy enough) gets crack ships. Plus, the crack shippers know it’s crack. It’s cray cray. Now, the Makorra shippers’ response to crack ships… XD it’s not even a canon threat. it’s just people having some goddamn FUN.

I think I have learned my lesson about shippers, shipping and this blog/podcast: we don’t really get it (yet).

And from what I’m seeing in the Korra fan circles this morning, it’s going to be tough because the whole thing is about to reach a fever pitch come this weekend.

Let’s just all be nice to each other, okay? You can pair off any two characters that you want, just don’t flood me with “WHY U HATEZ HOWLERS YOU SUXXX” e-mails and messages. That was scary.

-Da7e-

What do you think about stand up comedian Amon?

I think it’s pretty brilliant.
