I just thought of something worse than an M. Night A:TLA adaptation: Avatar: The Last Airbender: THE MUSICAL… That would not work in the real world, but would be funny to see in “The Legend of Korra”. Kinda like if The Ember Island Players added song and dance to their performances. But anyway, it sounds as crazy as a Spiderman Musical, it just doesn’t seem like it would go well. Although “Secret Tunnel” performed live would be EPIC!! What are you’re thoughts?

Matt and I asked The Track Team if there was going to be any lyrical songs in The Legend of Korra and they said “no,” but had not finished the first season yet. Suffice to say, officially, there’s no plan.

BUT IT WOULD BE GREAT! Seriously, “Leaves From The Vine” is beautiful in it’s own right and “Secret Tunnel” is the bomb, but any song about your girlfriend turning into the moon – I mean, come on, it’d be great.

In case you missed it, here is Patches and I talking to The Track Team about their Korra work.

I really hope to touch base with them again after the season has aired to talk this, if there will be an official soundtrack and general awesomeness. We’ll see.

-Da7e-

Do you believe that Asami could possibly be an equalist? I read a very detailed theory and it all made sense. Sorry if you’ve already answered this though. Lol

We talk about this a bit in Episode 3 of the podcast. But – there’s something fishy about her. If she was supposed to be only a romantic character, she would have had more to do this episode.

Don’t trust rich girls who are supposed to be expert drivers but crash into you “on accident” on a Moped then are talking about how “safe” they feel with you three days later.

That’s just good life advice.

If Assami isn’t bad, I owe you a bowl of Narook’s Seaweed Noodles.

-Da7e-

Bolan and Korra made a cute couple, thoughts?

Ahh! No comment! I fear for my life if I take a shipping stance!

But I will say this – I wish my romances started this way:

That’s talkin’ ‘but real love, Pabu.

The books/seasons have been following the avatar cycle from the very start: water, earth, fire and now air; so logically Book 2 will be subtitled “Water”, but I highly doubt it since Korra has nothing more to learn about waterbending (though it’s not certain whether she’s mastered healing and bloodbending already or not), so what do you guys think the next book will be called? “Chakra”? “Spirits”?… “Avatar”? :D

OOOH! I like “AVATAR!”

We talked about this a bit in Episode 1 of the podcast.

I like the idea that it’s “Soul” or “Spirit,” but something that’s bigger than the four elements. The progression seems to be going in that direction.

Then again, it could be “Chi” or “Life” or something even HUGER!

Gah! Too early to get excited, but – yeah – good thoughts! I doubt we’ll get a second book of “Water” I think Korra Book 2 has to be something new.

-Da7e-

Do you guys ship Tokka?

We don’t really ship. But, that particular combo has some basis for maybe showing up. What with those flashback/forwards.

btw that gif you used for korra starts now! it’s -everdeen’s, and i’m not sure if you know but saving a gif and then reposting it doesn’t constitute kindly! it would be great if you reblogged it from her and added a caption, but just so you know, saving + reposting can goad the makers. :) just a heads up.

Hmmm. Trying to link to -everdeen is http://catbender.in/?

I’m super sensitive to sourcing fan art, and try to re-blog/add to keep the Tumblr chain going. That being said, I can’t drive myself crazy tracking down where each GIF originated and I found -everdeen’s on a post that did not mention where it was from.

I totally accept watermarks on your GIFs, though, and if you feel like whatever you are contributing to the fandom is proprietary, please take it upon yourself to source yourself.

The Legend of Korra starts NOW on Nickelodeon!

Expect Delays! But take this prompt!

(art by okelleok)

News, RCD Fans: news. It’s neither good nor bad, just is.

This week’s podcast will not drop until SUNDAY due to some scheduling conflicts.

But fear not, we will not abandon you this eve of the ‘shipping-est episode of Korra yet.

So – give us your opinions on this prompt and Da7e will jump in tomorrow (Saturday) in between Korra’s airing and the podcast going up:

The Legend of Korra is going to take a hard turn into relationships, which is much more fitting knowing this series is about Korra’s teenage years and her coming of age. The Avatar: The Last Airbender romance was scare and slow boiling, so how much did the creators (Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko) PLAN on driving ‘shipping fandom crazy with these characters? Keep in mind the nature of animated television means this season was finished before the fans even knew what a Makorra or Masami was.

You can contact us by going to our ask page or e-mailing us.

Good? Good. See you tomorrow and we’ll get all deep into Episode 5 “The Spirit of Competition” on Sunday.

At first I was like: “Stink eye, fandom!”

But now I’m like: “You know what, the message itself is valuable, even it it was an excuse for someone to draw someone messing with Korra’s boob.”

UPDATES:

Scott Says: [EXCERPT] Awareness of breast cancer is a huge deal, necessary and good. But this picture is wrong on many different levels. First is the disembodied hand. It is not checking, it is groping. If Korra was checking herself…not an issue. Second is the look on her face. I’m guessing the original artist is implying the seriousness of the issue, but it looks like rape. Someone is groping her, she’s not enjoying it, but has to put up with it anyways. I love being a fan of the show and discussing it with other fans, but I would like to not have to see objectification of Korra or other women on the show. That is the very antithesis to the spirit of the show and the strength of the female characters there. In that same vein, I feel that the picture of Korra and Asami naked was unnecessary and disappointing to see on the site. It is degrading to their characters to be seen as solely sexual objects and against what the show is about.

DA7E SAYS: [EXCERPT] after a quick study of the 146 likes, re-blogs and comments on the Korra Breast Cancer post, I decided to leave it up with some of this correspondence on it. I can’t be an arbiter of facial-expression interpretation, satire or genuine breast cancer awareness. I hope you understand.

I can promise you that the image will stay safely buried several pages below the front one and I’ll keep a sharp eye on what gets posted from now on an not even stray towards the group of fandom feverishly illustrating their Korra fantasies. I guess after seeing so much straight-up pornography, I was ready to entertain the thought of one Breast Cancer Post, especially since I still can’t tell if it was well-intentioned and poorly executed or entirely sexual.
My aunt is actually a survivor, so I’d like to think I’m giving this issues it’s proper weight. And am more than willing to post some of this correspondence with the breast cancer post. We don’t want to diminish your enjoyment of the show.
Thanks Scott!

Korra Vs Chi-Blocker by ct-chrysler

Quiet Boromir!

Have you ever heard the name “Ned Stark?” the resemblance is uncanny.

The motto for the day is “be the leaf.”

Almost to new Korra – tomorrow at 11AM on Nickelodeon.

Aang’s decision to spare Ozai’s life at the end of ATLA made sense for the character, but it also seemed to me that the powers that be were reluctant to show their barely-teenaged hero deliberately dealing out death. Do you think this pattern will continue as we learn more about the threat of Yakone? Did age and need make Aang capable of killing? Do you think the show will go There? ~ inkasrain

Yup!

I my mind, Patches’ “not the Avatar” theory is less likely than my general feeling that whatever Aang did to Yakone (is that how we’re spelling it?) directly parallels with whatever Korra has to do with Amon.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it has to do with when the Avatar kills or if the Avatar can kill.

-Da7e-

This one for Patches:

I don’t think I was the only one who stared at Nick.com’s “Welcome to Republic City” being: “Wait. What? Where’s my police station and Toph statue?”

So, instead of waiting around, we’re going to take it in a separate and *possibly spoilerish* (though this is all theory until it happens).

Tumblr user masterarrowhead claims to know some plot points of Korra Book 2. We’re not 100% sold on this, but it’s an interesting theory that comes with it’s own visuals.

BE AWARE: If this guy/girl/person/Fire Ferret is right, he’s/she’s/it’s about to spoil some stuff from Korra Book One. But we don’t know if he’s/she’s/it’s right.

Right now: THIS IS THEORY NOT CANON (I mean, Howl as a character?) THEORY! THEORY! NOT CANON! BUT FUN THEORY BASED ON REAL PHOTOS.

Take it away, masterarrowhead!

-Da7e-

Hey guys!

Remember this post that Bryan posted on Tumblr back in March?

It includes a storyboard of Korra and Mako.

…Or so some of us assumed.

Let’s take a closer look then shall we?

I remember seeing this for the first time and being all “That kind of looks like Bolin except he’s looking a bit too lanky and his arms much too thin.”

But taking a closer look at it now?

Check out that expression. That is definitely more of a Bolin expression than Mako expression. Although that boy does tend to surprise people with the expressions he has in store haha. So the expression can’t really be that valid of a point.

But then look again.

There’s that turtleduck butt hair in the back.

However the front still looks more like Mako’s— WAIT!

Let’s pull up some comparisons.

Wait a minute.

Mako has a baby turtleduck butt too.

But the one in the picture is bigger than his.

And yet the front of the hair….

There can only be one explanation.

I remember my friend Ash who used to work as a developer on The Legend of Korra as a  script writer telling me about a brain storm session the team had about Book 2. It was just a small tossing around of ideas because they were still hard at work for Book 1 and I didn’t actually think they’d go through with the idea.

But this right here.

This seemingly insignificant storyboard holds the key to the plot of Book 2.

Don’t read any further if you don’t want to be spoiled.

..

.

Okay. Book 2 was discussed to be more about Korra’s journey with discovering more of the spiritual side of being the Avatar including more journeys to the Spirit World.

What the real twist to the story is that the Spirit named Koh has a secret ability that was never revealed in the original series.

The ability to combine two souls, people as well.

Korra has to reenter the Spirit World and find the fractures of Bolin and Mako’s souls  that weren’t part of them being combined, in order to make them into their own beings  once again.

It all makes so much sense now with Janet Varney’s seemingly innocent tweet about Mako and Bolin combined would be the perfect man.

She knows.

And if my suspicions are correct then this means that the Asami sub-plot will also come into play. Yes. There’s also a sub-plot about finding Asami in the Spirit World since she sacrificed herself for firebending at the end of Book 1 and became the sun.

This also means that with only Korra and Makolin left as the members of the Krew there is need for the adding of Howl, the White Lotus guard, as an official member of Team Avatar. Howl factors into this based on the fact that since Mako and Bolin are now combined, there needs to be a third member of the team. There will probably be some awkward sexual tension going on knowing Bryke and the other writers, but Howl will generally fill in a Sokka role, slight comedic relief with a surprising amount of knowledge up his sleeve. At least that’s what I remember Ash saying he would be if they went with this route for Book 2.

And after all that chaos with spirit magic and combined souls and suns…

I bet you’re all wondering what ship will be end-game.

Who am I kidding? OF COURSE that’s what you’ve been waiting for.

And the answer to that question is…

MAKORRAHOWLIN

It’s completely canon now.

On more than one post you guys have said blood bending could only happen during the full moon, that is only half false. We saw katara blood bend during the day. the old woman who taught katara to blood bend however was not powerful enough to blood bend any other time. ( its hard to tell its day during the episode however cuz katara revangeing her mother and makes a huge storm) :)

Hmmmm.

Well, you’re talking about episode in Season 3 called The Southern Raiders which does take place during a Full Moon, hence Katara’s ability to cause that huge storm.

As for if it’s day or night, that would seem irrelevant since “the full moon” is a time period, not necessarily a visual. There can be full moons in the daylight, we just can’t always see them because not enough light is reflecting off the lunar surface. There are even places on Earth that don’t get full moons every month.

And – not to get super picky – but we don’t even know if this world is even close to Earth, so really all these “moon rules” are probably screwy.

-Da7e-

I only recently started to follow you guys but i’m curious if these theories have been addressed: 1) the red monsoon of the triad gang are waterbending blood benders 2) the kyoshi warriors are apart of the equalist movement because they themselves are not benders and were taught the chi blocking techniques by ty lee.

1) We talked a bit about Blood Bending but not in association to the Red Monsoon. That certainly seems interesting, but I thought Blood Bending could only happen during the full moon?

2) There’s nothing to disprove this theory, that’s for sure. Chi-Blocking exists, but it’s not tied to Ty Lee like Metalbending is tied to Toph, so there’s the possibility that Amon had his own Chi-Blocking journey to go on before he could lead all of them. The only thing that has me hesitating that the Equalists are direct-descendants of the Kyoshi Warriors is that the identity of Kyoshi Island is so tied to Avatar Kyoshi both historically for separating the island and culturally through their female warrior tradition.

It would personally make me sad to see the Kyoshi warriors perverted to be Equalists, but we haven’t seen any evidence that this is NOT true. : )

While all the ships crash into each other as press materials tease episode 5 as revealing that romance will be taking a front seat, we thought it was time for more Pabu.

It’s always time for more Pabu.

Wow. Just: wow. Wow in an unbelievably positive manner.

Myers-Briggs for the ATLA cast. You may have to zoom in a little, but it’s worth it. Dragonjam, this is relevant!

Yes. New places open up tomorrow 5/4 on Nick.com’s “Welcome To Republic City."

The police station is one of those new locations.

Here’s hoping that Toph statue has info on if she’s dead or not.

Soon..

This looks promising.

My Korra armband concept.

Dear sir: That is some awesome custom eyebrow commitment!

This will be my one post about the shippingness. Because it looks like Episode 5 is going to be a huge ship battle, like at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

madame-fussybritches:

know Bryke’s laughing at Makorra fans. I know it.

Makorra: Phew, it took us an entire week to repair the ship’s damages.
Bryke: Oh, hey guise. I think you forgot to fix that leak.
(Asami: Good morning, sweetie!)
Bryke: Op, and that leak too.
(Asami: You look good champ!)
Bryke: And there’s another one over there too!
(*Masami Eskimo kiss*)
Bryke: Well, would you look at that? I think you’re sinking again. HA HAHA HAHA HA HA HA HA HAHA. Toodles! *ollies out*

Can’t we all just get along?

More like this from marikodraws!

“She rode her dragon into battle and burned down the entire country. Then she jumped into a volcano. It was so romantic.”

Hey guys, I’m a huge fan of RCD, OpKino, and I’m actually apart of Team Transcription. I was just wondering what kind a preparation you do before a show. Because the podcast always sounds seamless, with very little pauses, interesting topics, it wraps up nicely, and it comes out the same day as the episode. Do you have a general outline of what you want to talk about or do you guys just vibe off each other well?

First off – Give it up for Team Transcription everyone!

I’m going to seed in a few new volunteers for this week, but they’re really, aw…aww….awwwwwwesome. They’re everything that’s good about fandom.

Anywho – to the question.

I can only speak for myself, because we’re not in the same room hardly ever and coordinate over Google Docs.

The doc itself that we use during our Skype session is made by me taking notes during the broadcast, which I watch with the subtitles on so I can get things right the first time (I do not have DVR, so it really is one time only).

As soon a the episode is over, I jump in the Doc and write an almost scene-by-scene breakdown of the episode for the summary, then update all the technical stuff like the title of the next episode and the date we’re recording.

Matt, Devindra and I call each other on Skype about 15-20 minutes after the episode ends and we pre-chat for 5 minutes and – NO JOKE – occasionally debate about how to pronounce things, since we’ll be amongst the first to do so and we don’t have the best track record of representing y’all.

We select and e-mail to read (if there’s one that’s going to lead into the greater episode discussion) and then we start recording the podcast. : )

After that, there’s very little pre-planning. Both on the /Filmcast and OpKino, we all have found a rhythm for these sorts of things and the episode gets out fastest when we don’t have to edit at all.

Basically, the whole process is done between 11AM and 12:30PM on Saturdays and the rest is rendering and uploading the file to all the different services. : )

That might change the slightest bit as we progress through the season, but we’ll try to keep recording on Saturdays and as close to air as possible.

Then, for me, each weekday is about engaging with the community in the mornings before I go to my day job.

If it was any show besides Korra, I’d imagine I’d be tired of all this by now, but I’m loving it, even weird stuff like gender switching:

Thanks Team!
