Can we just talk about how awesome it is that the Equalists can’t touch the air benders because they don’t know how to fight them? Think about it – there are only four air benders in the entire world (that we know of) so the Equalists have no idea what their fighting style is like, where their weaknesses are, etc. In which case, it’s clearly super important that Korra figures out how to air bend and fast.

Yes. This is why I didn’t bring up the air bending kids fight on the podcast proper. I’ve seen other comments suggesting the Chi Blockers were kind of lame enough for 3 kids to take the out, but you’re right, Chi Blockers likely ever trained to fight Air benders (or Polar Bear dogs).

What? More Adventures In RSS.

Well, listeners, iTunes, once again, has made me it’s…[explicit].

Here’s the deal: We’re all receiving the word that no one can get the #10: Turning The Tides episode off iTunes proper.

Yesterday, I spent some time looking through the RSS file to see what was going on. It seems to be accurate, at least for episode 10.

And I don’t know what’s making it trigger so the iTunes store doesn’t see episode 10. The most frustrating part is it is there, on my website, waiting for someone to index it.

How do I know?

If you are an iTunes User, here’s how you can get episode 10 right now, even though searching “Republic City Dispatch” doesn’t display it.

  1. Launch iTunes.
  2. In the Advanced menu, select Subscribe to Podcast.
  3. Enter your feed URL in the text box (http://readitordont.com/RCD/RCDFeed.xml) and click OK.

iTunes displays your Podcast playlist, which shows all of the podcasts to which you have subscribed. Next to the new podcast subscription, you should see an orange circle, which indicates that iTunes is downloading your most recent episode. When the orange circle disappears, you should be able to see your podcast title, a list of all the episodes referenced in your feed, and a check next to the most recent episode, indicating that it has been successfully downloaded.

So that means the XML file is correct and episode 10 is up there, it’s just iTunes that doesn’t know how to list it?

IF YOU UNSUBSCRIBE AND THEN RE-SUBSCRIBE, Episode 10 is also the first to download. AAAAAGGGGGH! It’s there!

I’m going to do all I can this morning to kick the iTunes store into gear for y’all, but if you follow my instructions, you can get it now. Because it’s there. Where it’s supposed to be, driving me crazy.

like-parallel-lines:

Because everyone has to at least do this after watching episode 10. Can’t believe I was able to (mostly) use clips just from that one episode. There is some Linzin/Tenzlin in it, but this isn’t meant to be a pairing video; more of a dedication to Lin Beifong. It made me feel sad for her that she watched her former lover with his own family; because she probably wanted Tenzin’s children to be her children too. Even so, she didn’t abandon him for anything less than keeping him and his family safe.

Official Words From Brian

bryankonietzko:

–Wow! Thanks, everybody! I’m really glad you like the art.

–Ha ha, some people just see what they want to see, I guess. Korra is not wearing Mako’s scarf, nor his jacket. Look more closely at her costume, and Mako’s.

–The finale on June 23 is the Book 1 finale (episodes 111 & 112). But first, episode 110 airs this Saturday, June 16! Get the collective body ready.

–We just finished up the mix of episode 112 this evening. Just a few finishing touches left to do on the picture, then that’s a wrap on Book 1. WOO HOO! These 12 episodes took two really tough years to make. I really wish that meant we had a break now, but sigh… (See below). Thanks and congratulations to all the awesome, hardworking people on the Korra crew!

–Book 2 is happening, and is 14 episodes long. No, I don’t know when it comes out. REALLY, I DON’T. But no, it won’t be another two years from now, as we are already in production on it (that’s the brutal thing about TV, the schedule overlap). So all I can say, and it is the honest truth, is that we’re working really hard on it!

–I’m hungry.

My initial reaction?

“Does this mean Mako is going to get naked and tell Korra to wear his clothes?”

What was your reaction?

Is Korra going under-cover? Is Korra joining the United Forces? Is Korra just wearing Mako’s outfit?

Youtube user   made this after listening to our latest episode. I know Patches just linked to it, but HEY NICKELODEON, we’re making better teasers than you are now. : ).

IT CONCLUDES NEXT SATURDAY 11AM ON NICKELODEON.

BE THERE.

WATCHING.

This week’s references to The Dark Knight Rises have listeners riffing non-stop! After the awesome “Amon cracking Korra” image, dinoccom created this Amon montage set to the haunting TDKR Bane score "Deshi Basara" and listener dylgio unleashed his long-gestating mash-up of Korra and the TDKR trailer (see above). So cool.

Q&A with Mike and Bryan!

It’s a korranation Q&A! :

Hey, Korra Nation! This coming Friday, co-creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will be answering questions from Korra fans!

Leave your questions below or tag your post with #AskBryke and your question could be answered.

Here’s ours: Which TV and film villains have you drawn inspiration from for Amon’s character?

6/27/2012

I’m Amazed!

Hey! I found bill-rinaldi ’s blog! He works on Korra basically (seemingly?) doing the job I talk about on this week’s episode (making up cool fights). He has this neat bit-o-info about “Out of the Past”:

That none of you have figured out the voices for the Two Chi-blockers that find the empty tram car, one of who is referred to as the sassy chi-blocker.. I thought you guys would be freaking out..

Any clue?

EDIT: It’s not Me or Sifu Kisu…

It’s Bryke!

Bryan and Mike…..

And of course Bryan is the sassy one…

And by of course I mean he would love to play that character, not that he is sassy..

Random question, but do you guys have a bird? I swear i keep hearing a bird in the background. Great show though! Let’s all have a prayer circle for Lin Bei Fong!

Hahahahaha! That might be me! It’s been a series of nice Sundays, so I’ve been leaving my window open and Brooklyn has some vocal bird life.

I can hear them right now.

Also, I saw a cardinal the other day. A CARDINAL. All red and … reminded me of Pabu.

(I don’t know where the shirt came from, but that’s keepmusing wearing it)

I listen to A LOT of podcasts. All of Smodcast, & Major Spoilers network shows, Nerdist, Penn’s Sunday School, etc, so when I get into something I listen to the fan pods…RCD is head and shoulders above all the other Korra ones I sampled in terms of audio, production and overall quality. Thank you all very much for your hard work. MR.

You are very welcome!

We, of course, come from the wide world of movie and pop culture podcasting. (And I currently am addicted to Nerdist Writer’s Panel, Pop Culture Happy Hour, WTF w/Marc Maron, SuperEgo, Stuff You Should Know, Radiolab, 99% Invisible and show-specific fan casts for various TV shows that I bring up occasionally – CAST OF KINGS, I MISS YOU!).

I drift in and out of the Smodcast and Earworlf podcast networks. It’s hard for me to commit week-to-week on those, but I will backtrack and do large chunks of catching up at once.

This week, non-Korra, in our host’s podcasting lives:

Devindra and the /Filmcast just reviewed Wes Anderson’s MOONRISE KINGDOM on their latest episode.

Patches and I talked about Rock of Ages and White Male Critics Not Getting “It” on Operation Kino (this Friday we review Pixar’s BRAVE and – warning – I think it’s really bad, so if you want to hear people yell at me, tune in then).

Aaaaand, Falling Skies, the family/alien-invasion sci-fi show on TNT had it’s two-hour premiere last night, so I jumped over to the Fat Guys Podcast Network to discuss the second season as a fan of the first (flaws and all) at The Idiot Boxers.

You think with all this podcasting we do, we’d be able to get iTunes to work consistently. For our episodes, but…well, iTunes makes fools of us all.

If you decide to jump into your own podcast – here – you can thank me later.

-Da7e (the one that’s just a head)-

When you were talking about Bumi and Iroh II, you mentioned something about a collar from a picture on Aangs family tree. What tree is this and where can I find it?

I think it was both at Comic Con last year and somewhere in the Welcome to Republic City game at Nick.com (superfans, feel free to correct me about the Aang family tree origins).

Luckily it’s out there, so googling “Aang Family Tree” returns it mostly without fan-spoilers (like the bottom second from the right picture which shows Bumi as Amon which we’re pretty sure is fake).

Enjoy.

Your guys’ commentary and analysis are absolutely brilliant, as well as pretty darn funny. However, after listening to the dispatch on Ep. 10, I’d just like to point out that Amon’s story (according to Mike and Bryan) ends with Season 1. So, Amon’s story is, as you said, crescendoing, because it is actually ending June 23rd. :D

Really? Awwwwww.

But. But. Ok. It’s okay, usually I snarkily ask for a link, then pretend I didn’t get information I didn’t like, but – while I’ll still ask for a link – I think I’ll be okay with this.

I’m not super happy we didn’t get tons of episodes about The Spirit World, but I’ve been so pleasently surprised by what this series has been   even when all the press and interviews and blogs I’d read before the show gave me a different, lesser idea of what Korra could be.

Korra’s playing at a high level of television (unquestionably the best thing on Nick right now) so the closer we’ve gotten to the end of this book, the more I’ve trusted where it’s going, even when it’s not where I expect it to be.

silvermoonphantom:

Republic city dispatch made a general request during transmission.

Amon breaking Lin’s back, like Bane and Batman…

I couldn’t resist.

Im sorry

Wow! A discussion on the similarities between this week’s  “Turning the Tides” and The Dark Knight Rises lead to a silly suggestion for a sketch of Amon as Bane breaking Korra’s back (a la Batman’s Knightfall), but Republic City Dispatch commenter silvermoonphantom made it happen. And impressively so. Amazing!

Here’s the original pic for reference:

REPUBLIC CITY DISPATCH #10: “TURNING THE TIDES”

BE FOREWARNED – Discussion includes Avatar: The Last Airbender, Chapters 1-10 of The Legend of Korra and could expand to include The Promise (Part One and Two), Nick.com’s “Welcome To Republic City” at any time.

Good Morning Benders and Non-Benders alike and Welcome to The Republic City Dispatch, a radio programme covering Nickelodeon’s Legend of Korra series. This week: Book One, Air, reaches it’s penultimate week with, Turning the Tides. Republic City is under attack, Pema in labor and the Fire Lord’s descendant revealed! Now without further ado, those master fart-benders, Matt, Dave and Devindra!

Hey! Da7e corrects his own faulty “Amon” pronunciation! Only calls Beifong “Lin.” Yeah. YEAH!

Hosted by Devindra Hardawar of the /Filmcast and Da7e and Matt Patches of Operation Kino.

I have a question that’s been burning me up since the finale of ATLA, and while I can’t seem to find a way to ask the creators, you guys are answering questions and you seem to know quite a bit about both series. If energy bending predates the Avatar, does it not also predate bending the elements? If so, then the ability to take away someone’s bending cannot be its only use. Could the Avatar hypothetically use it to give someone bending as well? Could this lead to the rebirth of the airbenders?

Yes.

We learn from the Lion Turtle that spirits energy bending humans or “teaching” them bending skills is actually how bending came to be. (Sozin’s Comet Part 2).

Energy bending pre-dates all bending AND the Avatar, so yes, it’s intended primary function is to give people bending, we’ve always just seen it use to take people’s bending away.

-Da7e-

I think I am about to cry… Pabu was not in the episode, AGAIN! I don’t know what I am going to do with my Pabu feels now.

DO NOT FEAR, PABU LIVES!

(keep your head down, buddy!)

see: He’s with Bolin right before they flee the island.

Hey guys, love your show. I was wondering since the avatar has the ability to take away bending, could the avatar also restore bending in a person? I hope this could be possible cause Lin not being able to metalbend is an injustice.

Possibly.

And we see in the teaser that Korra ends up with Amon’s thumb on her forehead.

On this week’s episode, we have some thoughts about what we feel we need to see in the Finale and I suggest we might see some sort of restoration.

Just because it seems like they’ve been going out of their way to talk about how “permanent” Amon’s little trick is. That’s a modern perspective.

It was the spirits who taught people bending. Taught. Just sayin’.

-Da7e-

And here’s Naga’s b*tch slap of the lieutenant which made me super happy.

When will the episode be up today?? :D

Rendering now!
