Don’t let that meany get you down! I always listen to your podcasts and find it humorous whenever something is said incorrectly. That guy didn’t have to be a dick about it. You guys are awesome! ^.^

Thanks!

No one has us down, because Korra is coming back and that buoys all emotion to the highest heights!

Thank you, anonymous commenter, for commenting. We’re back and answering and Book Two: Spirits is upon us.

SAY IT RIGHT.

Korra by merina-sky-art

I CAN’T APOLOGIZE ENOUGH. WE ALL LOVE THE SAME THING, WHY CAN’T WE ALL LOVE TOGETHER?

A new season of Korra means a whole slew of new characters whose names I can mispronounce. As a Gonzales, I never had a chance to do my eastern language vowels correctly.

I’m sorry for my past sins, encased in the amber of the internet.

But revisiting Book One is a great idea!

-Da7e-

dice-master-duke:

Okay. I just watched all 7 episodes of Korra again, and now I’m listening to “Republic City Dispatch” which is supposed to be like the most “official” unofficial podcast that discusses it.

One of the guys can’t pronounce anything right. He refers to Asami Sato, and said Asami “Say-toh”… and he KEPT. SAYING. IT. Even though the name is a play on sounds to go with “Automobile” “Satomobile” SATO. SAH-TOH.

He also screwed up Bei-Fong, which REALLY pisses me off, because that stems back to A:TLA book 2. He said “Bye-fong.” BYE. FONG. IT IS PRONOUNCED “BAY-FONG.” THIS ISN’T A MANGA PEOPLE. IT IS SAID IN THE SHOW IN A LANGUAGE WE ALL UNDERSTAND. SAY. IT. RIGHT.

Toph needs to bitchslap that hoe.

REPUBLIC CITY DISPATCH BOOK 2 FAQ

You aren’t on iTunes anymore?!?!?!?!

Nope. Because of two large companies, one hosting and one podcast-listing, we were deleted from a certain store. All subscribers seem to have been deleted as well. HOWEVER, we’re working to get Republic City Dispatch back on iTunes because we realize a lot of you use it to get your podcasts automatically. That being said, all the Book One episodes are still right where they’ve always been at our RSS FEEDS link, in case you’re using a podcast service like Downcast that is not dependent on the iTunes listings.

Please do not get mad. We are mad for you.

Are you doing a podcast for ____________?

Maybe. We know for sure we’re doing episode-by-episode analysis of Book 2. Surely there will be some BYE-weeks in there where we can fill out with comics, shorts, fan-reaction podcasts, etc.

Will you be back for BOOK TWO?

Yes. Yes we will. Right now we plan to release in the afternoon of Saturday September 14th, a little less than 24 hours after the now-Friday Korra premieres. Hopefully that will stay the same HOWEVER: Devindra gets married this September 14th, so we’re not sure who will make it on the podcast for that first episode at the moment. Probably not Devindra. Some things are more important than cartoons, we’re told.

Will you have special guests?

Probably. But ongoing discussions with the various arms of the publicity machine have indicated that those will likely not be anyone that worked on the series. Which sucks, and we’re working on it.

Will the Tumblr re-activate?

Darn tootin’. After the first episode, the warm embrace of a season-long fandom whirlpool beigns anew here at RepublicCityDispatch.com.

Anything I can do?

How sweet of you to ask. Check back here before the Book Two premiere. We’ll find a way to get on iTunes come hell or high water and we’ll want you to re-subscribe so you can get your Dispatch directly however you want it.

Wan, the First Avatar, Could Be Wan Shi Tong?

A name coincidence or a deeper connection? There is likely a piece of information that undermines this train of thought. I await your responses that debunk this theory!

For me, illustrative quality of the spirit world is the highlight of Korra Book 2 trailer. I think the “real world” animation — especially the work on the bike chase — is detailed, fluid, and as kinetic as ever, but man, these above frames are on a whole other level of artistry.

The spirit designs have had a Miyazaki/Spirited Away quality to them. The scenes featuring Wan feel distinct — more storybook, emulating ancient Eastern artwork. My mind jumped to the animation of Isao Takahata (Grave of the Fireflies) and Shoujirou Nishimi (Tekkonkinkreet).

What do they recall for you? Where do they take your imagination?

– Patches

A little of Rankin-Bass’ Gollum in this Korra Book 2 spirit, no?

– Patches

“I am Wan Shi Tong, he who knows ten thousand things. And you are obviously humans. Which, by the way, are no longer permitted in my study.”

I’m not sure Wan Shi Tong will be thrilled with an Airbender back in his library….

The Legend of Korra Book 2: Spirits trailer is here!

Let’s discuss this thing. Drop highlights, thought-provoking moments, and theories below! This is grander than I could have ever imagined

– Patches

Update: JuJuSeed and Empyreankosmo say that there will be two episodes that introduce Wan was the first Avatar. To that I still wonder, how? How do we just throw two backstory episodes into a narrative that’s trucking along? What do we think will be the segue that allows for the main storyline to take a two episode break?

Book 2 will introduce the very first Avatar, Wan. He’ll be voiced by Walking Dead actor Steven Yeun.

Here is my big question: How do we get there? Flashbacks were a big part of Book 1, but they were born out of the narrative. Aang was communicating with Korra. I would suspect that, if we see flashbacks, it would be Wan needing to make contact. No willy nilly jumping backwards in Legend of Korra.

Here’s my real theory: We meet Wan in the spirit world. The background of this picture is what clinches it for me. The surreal shapes of trees and the colors of the sky…. has to be the spirit world. Right?

That is just my (Patches) thinking. Let the theories fly. How is Wan going to figure in to Korra’s Book 2 adventure?

Listen to Two Exclusive Clips From the Legend of Korra Soundtrack

First look footage of The Legend of Korra: Book 2.

Nickelodeon’s abrasive graphics and muzac don’t really set the tone here — but I like what I see. While it doesn’t have the majesty and unexpected elegance of Book 1’s Republic City setting, Book 2 promises a Miyazaki-style fantasy arc. Maybe that’s why it looks a bit more “cartoony” than Book 1. The spirit animals are bubbly and the backgrounds play to that aesthetic over the hyper-detail of RC. I’m glad their taking risks rather than replicating what worked in the first season. – Patches

What do you think?

Korra’s Coming Back MAY 12th 2013 for Book 2, RIGHT?

Noooope.

I did my due diligence today scouring the web to try and find this “official” Netflix/Nickelodeon confirmation/leak.

Sadly, it looks like some stray listings for Book One: Air in Ireland and the UK sent people into a tizzy because it also aligned with a random fan prediction of “May 12th” made in December on a Wika message board.

Plus the NICK message boards fanned the flame with many, many panicked animated emoticons HERE.

So let’s relax, we’re probably still getting the Book One DVD first.

I’ve been asked by Devindra to tell you that we are going to upload the /Filmcast Benefit we all did with Jeremy Zuckerman, talking about the scoring for Avatar, Korra and Book 2. We’re going to throw it in the RCD Feed, once we get ourselves back on iTunes and edit the episode, etc.

Until then, you can always chill with me at AvatarPatel’s YouTube page where he uploads the best in Korra video content…unofficial Korra video content. : )

agentsokka:

BLU-RAY, COMIN’ AT YA!

IGN has discovered the powers that be have decided The Book One Blu/DVD will come a WHOLE WEEK EARLY(er than expected)!

New date: July 9th 2013

PRE ORDER YOUR BLU RAY HERE!

PRE ORDER YOUR DVD HERE!

IT’S OFFICIAL – The Legend of Korra Book One will get a DVD AND BLU-RAY Release!

It will be coming out July 16th and it’s Nickelodeon’s FIRST series to be released on Blu-Ray. As a result, they really want you to buy it, so while the DVD will have sporadic commentaries on specific episodes, only the Blu-Ray will have commentaries on EVERY episode plus eight Animatic featurettes.

There will also be a Puppet Bender short with Korra characters that will be on both sets.

The DVD pre-order is already up, well update with the BLU when we find it.

I’m not sure this is canon. But it may be required reading. – Patches

Has season 2 release been announced?

Not, like, a date, but promotional materials for Nickelodeon suggests that Korra Book 2 will be air during Fall 2013. Everything we’ve heard has supported that theory, but nothing has hard confirmed it that we know of.

-Da7e-

I’m sorry, Season 2 is so far gone. We’re already doing Season 3 now so everything’s so muddled.

– Seychelle Gabriel, Asami, to IGN at WonderCon

Well, we knew Book 3 was coming, but – GOOD NEWS – they seem to be going non-stop. Which means we might get to go through Korra fully before we have children!

Voices are on Book 3, scoring is half-to-¾ the way through Book 2 and a handful of episodes are in color correct. Fall looks pretty close.

-Da7e-

do you think there could be a limitation to Korra and the other benders getting there bending back?

Depends. Could there be? Yes, there could be. Though I’m not sure when it makes the most narrative sense to bring that up. Do you investigate it immediately as a way for Korra to enter the Spirit World? That’s what it seems like from the footage we’ve seen of Book 2 so far. Since all bending originates from the Spirit World, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re dealing with this pretty early on in the season (especially since it now sounds like well get more Lin backstory, so she may not be as absent from Book 2 as we feared).

The other option would be to let Korra and everyone else feel like a BAMF for a little while, then yank her bending out from under her again in a future book.

I’ll trust Bryan and Mike here.

-Da7e-

PS – Like Adventure Time or just have Netflix Instant? It’s PODCAST TIME.

PPS – We’re investigating the possibility of breaking out RCDispatch crossover hour with the SlashFilmAid Podcastathon into the RCDispatch feed. We got to talk to Jeremy Zuckerman of the Track Team again and he let us know what the Spirit World will sound like and how far through Book 2’s score he is.

Someone ANIMATED the screen caps of the color correct? G-D-fandom, you’re swell!

-Da7e-

SATURDAY – /Film FilmAid 10-hour Podcast w/RCDispatch Crossover Hour!

The Fire Letter (that’s what I’m calling it) certainly does look true… but what did Ozai and Azula chat about in their “dignified” 30-minute conversation? Could Ozai be pulling the strings here, beyond even what (poor?) Azula knows?

Certainly possible, of course. Judging from The Promise, though, I think we have a lot more to investigate in this plot than what we know now. But we did get an Appa Fight, which made Issue 1 infinitely awesome.

-Da7e-

It’s Podcast Time!

Why in the name of Tui, La, and Agni are we taking at face value a document that was found on Azula’s person? Maybe it wasn’t forged, but just the fact that she had it made me side-eye it so hard it wasn’t funny.

I guess the counter argument from me would be: Does it seem like Azula is sane enough to master-mind this craziness? She seems pretty far gone hallucinating her mother. So if we think we’re being jerked around, we’re being jerked around by the character…which I’m fine with.

Like the best lies, this one looks like a truth.

-Da7e-

I don’t think fighting (hitting things) with soundbending would make sense. Wouldn’t it be more efficient to use plain airbending? The best combat option I can see is using it to confuse and stun enemies. More interesting are the non-combat options: silencing footsteps and conversations for stealth, amplifying sounds to listen in on conversations or send and receive long distance messages, etc. Air monks could also add reverb, phasing, and other voice effects to do something like throat singing.

At some point last season when we were speculating on specialized forms of bending, someone brought up how Airbenders really don’t suck or knock the air out of people. AND there’s air in everything. Like in your blood – which is why entering the vacuum of space is so bad for you (over 18? Watch Event Horizon!). Sound would be cool, but there’s lots of combat-ready air possibilities from my seat.

-Da7e-

I’ll phrase this as obliquely as possible: What are your thoughts on the earthquake-like information exposed at the end of “The Search, Part One”? Red-herring, or real McCoy? Canon-compliment, or plot-implosive? Either way, where do we go from here?

I think it makes sense in terms of what we know about the Zuko/Ozai relationship in A:TLA. It also makes sense considering we knew Ozai was kind of crazy, but not Agni-Kai on his first born son kind of crazy. Now we know where THAT crazy came from. This oblique enough?
