1. The mechs looked like they were heavily aided by 3D modeling, so that’s why they look different when they’re moving and their lines aren’t as solid during rotations.

2. I don’t think the Airbending kids will be part of the “Krew.” I think Pema will have her baby at the most convenient plot moment, which would likely be after someone dies. (Death, new life, you know circle of life, SIIIIIIMMMMBBBBAAAAAA)

3. Yup.

4. Nope.

5. I’d guess in the episode titled “Skeletons In The Closet”

6. While Devindra thinks Bolin is doomed, I think it makes more sense to kill Asami.

I love your recaps so much guys! But I have one question, why don’t you guys have girl hosts?? I would love to hear a girls opinion in these podcasts about Korra things. I would be willing to do it, but I lack the humor you guys bring to the show :P – mooseandpeaches

Well, we had Emily from the AV Club replace me for the “And The Winner Is…" episode.

It’s not like we have a He-Man Women-Haters club, and I think we did pretty good as three dudes both talking about and recognizing our limitations in the shippy "The Spirit of Competition”

Whatever humor we’re using does not come from our genitals, so I don’t know how to help you in that regard.

I think adding in a woman every once in awhile is good for us, but I know for a fact all three of us are very cognizant that we are guys and the male gaze, while inescapable for us, is constantly in effect.

Here’s Korra as a man from cabout :

-Da7e-

I’ve noticed you’ve been calling Naga a boy when in fact Naga is a female, noted whenever Korra calls her “girl”.

YEAH PATCHES! : )

I almost corrected him ON the podcast, but why deprive you all of nitpicking?

That makes two boys, two girls, one boy animal and one girl animal.

If they do another series I want them to goto the past. Do a series on a past avatar. The mech suits in the Korra series are already my worst fears for this one (please no future. Avatar should never go full Digimon). And Ive been thinking they’ve been hinting at Aang taking away his Avatar state so that’s Korra hasn’t done it yet.

I think we’ve been in the past for a good three books, and between The Promise comics and what I increasingly think will be an episode almost entirely of flashbacks somewhere in this season of Korra.

But I don’t think this series will go “full Digimon.” One of the best things about how Korra has evolved thus far is it’s greatly based on the rules established in A:TLA. It’s a natural extension of the world, and even if Big Daddy looking mechs are a little jarring, I don’t think they’re more of a stretch than something like The Drill from 70 years before.

I trust the world-building, and if A:TLA was ancient and this is industrialized, I’d love to see what “Modern” is in this world. But maybe there’s no place for The Avatar in modernity.

#7: BONUS Episode

Good Morning Benders and Non-Benders alike and Welcome to The Republic City Dispatch, a radio programme covering Nickelodeon’s Legend of Korra series. This week: a special bonus episode while time stands still in Republic City. This episode goes out to Air Temple Island with this special message from our listeners: “Korra, Tenzin, Mako, Bolin, Pabu, Naga, Assami, Pema, Jinora, Ikki, Meelo – everyone take a moment to relax!” It’s time for Matt, Da7e and Devindra!

DON’T TEARBEND!

Republic City Dispatch Bonus Episode is coming TOMORROW (Sunday).

Da7e, Sorry, I didn’t mean for my last comment to sound like I was griping or nitpicking about the site…which is exactly how it came across. That was my bad. I did notice as I stopped by the site that the frames were gone, so thanks for that, however it was achieved. Once again, sorry for sounding much more abrasive than I intended. You guys have a great site. Also, is there any update from Nickelodeon about when the next episode will air? Thanks again, Scott from Colorado Springs.

Hey, Scott!

No problem, buddy. You also kicked off someone suggesting we take donations…which… we now have to think about.

And also someone suggested I just re-write the CSS from scratch…yeah, that’s not gonna happen. : )

I will do my best to make this site the most usable it can be through the run of Book One: Air. There will be an off season before the next run of Korra episodes (hopefully not a lengthy one), but if I get time to make different posts go up with the symbols of different nations (Flame icon for video!), it would probably NOT be while the show is running.

I hear you Scott (YAY COLORADO), and I hear those of you who are web-inclined enough to know just how much work I am or am not avoiding.

Also – although we’re not CURRENTLY accepting donations, I would gladly accept a custom-designed website. Or, you know, pictures of the three of us as a pro-bending team…or someone can ship me…hopefully with a girl character, but I’m easy. : )

That was all light joking.

(by scarletsapphires)

BUT – HERE IS YOUR COMMENTS ASSIGNMENT!

Link me to your favorite Avatar site (not Nick.com related and NOT the Avatar Wika). I was going to make a post of good ones, but keep getting distracted by things like: “Take those frames off your site!”

: )

-Da7e-

What are you guys going to talk about for this week’s podcast if there’s going to be one?

Hello!

You might have noticed the site has mostly been about how the CSS has been working for the past two days.

And it pains me, because I heart and miss all you of “The Fandom” whenever I have to go do other things (like a new 16 & Pregnant this Tuesday at 10PM on MTV).

HOWEVER – this has been very deliberate.

THERE WILL BE A REPUBLIC CITY DISPATCH THIS WEEK.

We have been saving up your e-mails, sorting through all 250 unaddressed Tumblr asks and combing through the comments to pick out what issues/theories keep coming up.

Also, we’ll do a quick review of what we’ve talked about this season and address some things we’ve left hanging.

Right now, all I can promise you is that we’ll loop back around to the question of Asami’s character development and I doubt we’ll be able to talk about the future without debating when/how/if we’ll get to see The Avatar State.

Other than that, we’re just calling it a “BONUS EPISODE.”

Fret not! This doesn’t mean a guest or guests aren’t coming in the future, it just means that we opened ourselves up to a lot of feedback and now we’re going to address that feedback.

And isn’t “The Promise Part 2” out?

That’s a real question. Do I need to stop by the comic book store tonight?

Keep it coming, folks, we’re watching!

So I met a businessman from Japan legit named “Sato” yesterday.

Safe to say I will be pronouncing that name more correctly in the future.

Thanks, Real Sato.

Da7e, Just wanted to chime in on the theme(tumblr). I prefer the older theme for layout and looks but this one largely isn’t bad. One thing, I think that the gilded frames that the layout puts around every picture looks terrible. Is there a way to fix this without changing the entire theme? I understand that the change was not without reason, but the gilded frames are an eyesore. Anyway, thanks for the great work and passion! Sincerely, Scott from Colorado Springs.

Whew.

Ok.

I have no way of telling if you, Scott, are the same person who has previously mentioned not liking the frames.

Here’s the deal: Tumblr themes that you can customize easily cost money, we don’t have money to spend, so everyone that says “I liked the old theme because it was like the show’s design sort of” or “I don’t like this new theme because it has nothing to do with the show:” Yeah, it’d be cool if this was a custom Tumblr site.

That would be cool and most cool things cost money, as is the way of the world.

That being said, I’m a pretty talented fella in the understanding CSS department, and I’m going to spend a bit trying to fix this frame issue.

I’d love to be able to address everyone’s design quibbles, but unless someone wants to give me $100 to buy a Tumblr theme and mod it myself, I’m ONLY gunning for features we can use to talk to each other.

Sorry about this longer, not-Korra post, but we’re prepping this week’s episode, so my apparent absence is actually a slow formation of format.

Alliteration!

-Da7e-

I guess it’s Red Scarf Day (Facebook – link)?

I was unaware.

-Da7e-

This picture by goingcrazyhere made me all confused. Then I read the caption. Total win:

A doodle I did in class a few weeks back.
Korra is trying to teach Bolin so traditional earthbending. But he hasnt gotten the hang of it yet even though his body is built for it.
Mako arrives and sees them in a “poop” stance…ya.

Ohh! korra-scenery is an awesome Tumblr!

Silk Road Bridge looks like half Golden Gate (San Francisco) and half Brooklyn (NYC). Which makes it 100% beautiful to me.

Silk Road Bridge

Location: Silk Road Bridge, Republic City, The United Republic

I’m pretty sure this is the official “This is Amon’s secret base” posters we saw from “The Aftermath.”

Ratings!

Episode 7 – “The Aftermath” 3.452 million; .89 adults 18-49 rating

PREVIOUSLY:

Episode 6 – ”And The Winner Is…” 3.876 million viewers and a .91 adults 18-49 rating.

Episode 5 “The Spirit of Competition”  – 3.784 million viewers, 0.95 A18-49 (#1 on the network for the day)

Episode 4 –4.079 million viewers, 1.13 A18-49 (#1 on the network for the day)

Episode 3 –  3.546 million viewers, 0.91 A18-49 (#1 on the network for the day)

Episode 1&2 – 4.5 million overall, 5.7/1.2 million K6-11 (+36%), 6.3/1.3 million T9-14 (+125%) and 5.5/1.9 million K2-11 (+17%)

Where can I find a complete list of Season 1 episodes?

Of Korra?

Right now, that doesn’t exist. New episode titles are released the week before usually. We update out Episode page accordingly.

-Da7e-

Hey, do you know if we have to wait another 2 weeks for a Korra episode? I’ve heard so all over tumblr, but I just checked tv guide and it says an episode will air next week at 11, but it didn’t give a description, so I’m not sure if it’s a new episode or not.

We’re pretty sure there’s no new Kthis weeks week, but stop by here and iTunes because there WILL be a new, BONUS, Republic City Dispatch where we’ll hopefully know more.

-Da7e-

What is your stance on the theory that Asami planned all the events that occurred in episode 7 so that she could get closer to Korra and Tenzin?

If you’re asking Da7e (me): All I could think about was that last scene where Mako’s all: “We can stay on Air Temple Island, right?” and Korra’s like: “Of course, Asami too” and I’m like: “Wow, this evil plan is really working out for Asami.”

: )

-Da7e-

seems like the series is avoiding the Avatar state No character has mentioned it, you think that would be important for Korra’s spiritual training. Also Aang went into the state when under stress or knocked out. Korra has been K.Oed three times with no sign of AV state and you think “the Aftermath” would have been a good time to glow it up. Do you think this is because Korra is not Spiritutal? Which is still a weird reason for its absentes given Roku’s denfence mechanisum statement

(Avatar State Korra by devfrost2000)

I was re-watching some A:TLA this week and was surprised how focused Aang is on learning how to be a better Avatar overall. Korra has had much more important things to worry about, arguably, but outside of the doors in Episode 2, we haven’t seen anyone really take time out of the plot to harp on Korra for training.

If this series is aware that M.Night Ruin-a-lan made the Avatar State more about glowing and less about the fear absolute power instills in those who witness it, I wouldn’t be surprised if we’re saving the Avatar State reveal until much later in the season.

But, yes, it’s starting to get to the point where you think SOMEONE would mention it to her. Like: “Wow, you seem to have lost to Equalists about 3 times now, maybe you need more training. What about The Avatar State? Didn’t Avatar Aang save the Water Tribe by becoming a Godzilla-sized fish monster? You know what could beat Amon? A Giant sized fish monster.”

-Da7e-

Hey! Hey! I don’t like your mispronunci…. KIDDING! hahaha I don’t even care about mispronunciations I’m an international fan who doesn’t pronounce everything correctly either, great podcast! but…what about Transcriptions and transcriptionbenders? did Amon take their T-bending power away?! O.o OH MY GODNESS! please give us some signs of live! well moving on that… how where the ratings for the 7 episodes that had already aired?

Hey Hey!

Thank you, international fans, a lot of you sent me e-mails telling me that pronunciation is the least of your worries. I’m glad that Korra is getting out world wide in a way that people can connect to the podcasts. It’s a great feeling on Sunday when we put it into the world and watch as thousands of people stream it off the Soundcloud in the first 5 hours.

ANYWAY!

The Transcription Benders are busy-busy-busy. I haven’t been updating with a new post every time they finish a transcription, but I HAVE been updating our EPISODES PAGE with PDF versions of the episode transcripts.

Right now, Team Transcription is taking on 3 episodes simultaniously – the first hybrid episode that covers 2 Korras, plus “And The Winner Is…” and “The Aftermath.”

These episodes are not only super-interesting, but they happened to fall in that very special time in an American student’s life: End of Spring Term.

So, yeah, we haven’t seen a bunch of Aly on the Team Transcription e-mail threads, but we did get and update: “For the last couple weeks I was super busy with school (which seems to have payed off; 3.66 semester GPA, 3.633 overall), this week it’s work (hosting a conference, 13-hour days almost all week). ”

YAY ALY!

But I can’t express how awesome Team Transcription has been to us and to each other. They’re still out there, transcribing all my “ums” and “I means.”

RATINGS wise, that post is in the Queue and will go up today around 1PM EST.

This comment/theory from Kaarel J via e-mail:

Hey.

First of all, at this point, I think any rationalization for Asami being evil after all is going to be too convoluted to be taken seriously. It’s an increasingly silly conspiracy theory, and actually, I found that this point of view caused you guys to neglect discussing her emotional developments as they appear to be on the face of episode 7.

The behaviors you hold to be suspicious all make perfect sense if you think things through. Having lost his wife to violence, it’s natural that Hiroshi would have provided combat training to his daughter. (This also sheds some light on Asami’s line about feeling safe with Mako earlier.) While I initially had the same impression about the race that you did, upon review, it seems pretty clear that the opposing driver simply made a risky play and failed. He hit Asami’s car, not the other way around.

I think Asami could be described as “manipulative” insofar that she seemed to take Korra to the racetrack specifically to impress her, but that was most likely part due to an honest attempt to dispel Korra’s animosity and make friends. The race was a nice, simple and demonstrative way for the writers to shift Korra’s opinion of Asami for the better.

I agree that we need more Naga. Pabu’s kind of outdoing her.

DA7E SAYS:

I disagree with you on the Asami front, but I wanted to address what you said about our doubts on Asami and the Sato family endgame made us neglect talking about Asami’s character development.

You’re right, I think, and that frustrates me a little bit, because we should have taken more time to discuss why it was the way it was and I’m feeling a bit of regret for writing it off as “Asami has a Darth Vader in Return of The Jedi” moment.

So look for Asami’s character development to be revisited in a future podcast episode, because I do think that she’s been relegated to side-episodes for her character development and that’s a big part of why I think she has a future outside of Team Korra Generation 2.

That being said, I still generally disagree. Take the last scene of “The Aftermath” as an example: It’s about Korra telling Mako to take care of Asami because she’s been through a lot and Mako quietly going back to Asami while we see that it pains Korra because she still has feelings for Mako. If Asami was equal with our three teenage protagonists, I think we’d get more of a peek into her feelings rather than just using her as something for Korra and Mako to confuse each other with.

Does she know about the kiss? Just thinking about that kind of makes my head spin.

BUT – I am not the be-all-end-all of Asami theories. You guys are. And now we have this nifty comment section on each post at RepublicCityDispatch.com and everyone can throw in their two cents.

WHAT’S UP WITH ASAMI? BAD? GOOD? WHY? Jump in the comments!

Desktop wallpaper anyone?

It’s really pretty on my laptop.

Don’t know who originally drew this (via bastet2) but whomever did is probably a fan of Devindra’s “Bolin’s a-gonna die” theory.
