REVIEW – Supercalifragilalcoholism With Saving Mr. Banks
| 27. December, 2013

REVIEW_GRAPHIC

Plus: a bonus rant from David about how the Keanu Reeves vehicle 47 Ronin is the second-worst thing to happen to Japan this decade.

Who better to make an film that takes an honest look at a tricky period in the history of Walt Disney and the studio he founded? Why, Walt Disney Pictures, of course! Except that Saving Mr. Banks actually glosses over a ton of issues in the adaptation of Mary Poppins, and does wrong by Emma Thompson in the process. Listen as Katey, David, and Patches tear into everything that drove them crazy about this supposedly feel-good holiday offering from the house that Mickey built.

While you’re wondering, listen to this fantastic episode where Katey, Patches, and David look to internet elder statesman Matt Singer from The Dissolve, the McConaughey to their Leo, who joins them off on a lengthy tour of critical excess discussing Martin Scorsese’s newest film. With Special Guest Mike Ryan!

By the beard of zeus, Will Ferrell has reclaimed his position has the non sequitur king of America for Anchorman 2, a sequel we weren’t really anticipating in the slightest despite thinking the original was pretty damn funny. Joining Katey and Patches is substitute anchor Mike Ryan (Huffington Post), the Wes Mantooth of online pop culture journalists. Are you wearing pants? Good. You’ll want to wear pants.

South Park takes on Body Image and an argument erupts about Holiday Movies.

This week, Da7e, David, Patches and Katey wrap up this year’s regular episodes by talking about South Park’s newest Season Finale titled “The Hobbit” and the body image issues it managed to address. Then, after some quick memorial Peter O’Toole recommendations, the gang charges into Holiday movies by immediately bringing up religious devisions of the season…and – of course – stupid Adam Sandler movies. Does Jesus make for good family entertainment? Hopefully we’ll calm down enough to find out.
