Plus Katey Rich’s Movie Quote Trivia Returns!

This week, Katey, Patches, David and Da7e throw down in another installment of movie quote trivia in the mini-segment! These quotes were pulled from the years #50-100 grossing movies, so it’s a bit more tough on our hosts. The real meat, though, is a discussion of HBO’s Miniseries Olive Kitterage, which David has seen all of and Patches and Katey read, then a discussion prompted by Friday’s review of Foxcatcher that asks: Since Foxcatcher is about “America” what other movies with big themes do we like? Unsuprisingly, Da7e brings up A Serbian Film again.

And Big Hero 6 is mentioned.

This week, David, Patches, and Katey blast off on a three-year mission to the furthest reaches of our universe, where space-time becomes so warped, that even a heady, composed blockbuster like Interstellar can come into existence. We’ll talk about the latest from Christopher Nolan in non-spoiler and spoiler-heavy sections, so if you’re looking to see the movie pure, come back later! We’ll also field your lighting round question answers on which actor you want to go to space with (plus a brief mention of Big Hero 6). It’ll be kooky.

Featuring Katey Rich and Elizabeth Taylor’s Corpse In Space

This week, Joanna Robinson takes the reigns to bring her residency to a climactic happy ending, much like romantic comedies. That’s right, Manhattan Love Story and A to Z failed at bringing serialized rom-com to the TV screen so it’s time to examine this genre: can it be drawn out and still be satisfying? Did the genre grind to a halt after the execution of Love Actually? IMPORTANT THINGS! Also discussed: The theater critic in Birdman has us thinking about professions portrayed on film and John Wick has each host picking a favorite dumbly plotted movie.

With Returning Guest Jordan Hoffman!

This week The Guardian and New York Daily News film critic Jordan Hoffman joins David and Patches for a ride into the underbelly of movie podcasting. It’s not as glittery as it looks. Sometimes you’re ambulance chasing the latest DOA blockbusters. Sometimes you’re looking to get off on the sweet, sweet high of a great film. And then there’s Nightcrawler from writer-director Dan Gilroy, a movie that sends the trio for an all-night ride into the mouth of hell. Happy Halloween!
