| 21. January, 2015

Plus each hosts one Oscar Noms Highlight Story

This week, we’re late an abbreviated because of Martin Luther King Day, just like [semi-offensive political event reference]! American Sniper has been setting records in January and Katey, Matt, Da7e and David want to know why. Is it Bradley Cooper? Is it Clint Eastwood? Are Americans just hungry for heroes? Then, each host briefly talks about an Oscar Nomination story from the previous week, highlighting some fun picks and snubs. Follow the show (@FITWR), Katey (@kateyrich)  Patches (@misterpatches), Da7e (@da7e) and David (@davidehrlich or @CriterionCorner).

Plus a mini review of Appropriate Behavior!

This week, Katey’s been replace by Joanna, and everyone should be happy, but that doesn’t stop Patches, David, and Da7e from taking a bleak view of things. First, everyone wants to talk about Black Mirror, the British Import Sci-Fic anthology show and how it might be great, then David wants to tell you about a Sundance movie he enjoyed that is finally seeing release, then FINALLY DAVID CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. The world is depressing and writing about film doesn’t seem to be helping anyone. Can the other hosts convince David to go on?  Follow the show (@FITWR), Joanna (@jowrotethis)  Patches (@misterpatches), Da7e (@da7e) and David (@davidehrlich or @CriterionCorner).

REVIEW – Selma

Plus Taken 3 and Predestination!

This week, Patches, David, and Katey look at Ava DuVernay’s Selma, a docudrama portrayal of the protests that helped enact the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The film is anything but a striaghtforward Dr. Martin Luther King biopic, making for a complicated and entertaining film to grapple with. After that, short reviews of Taken 3 and Predestination, plus answers to this week’s lightning round questions.

Plus what we watched over break!

This week, Katey, Patches David and Da7e are in 2015, the Year of our Time Lord Doctor Emmett Brown and where the **** are our hoverboards and self-fitting jackets in Thriller-ready red? This year there’s an unusual amount of movies coming up designed to pull on the old nostalgia heart-strings (otherwise how do you justify a Point Break remake?). The gang tackles this while also applying fast-acting nostalgia to the things they watched at the tail end of 2014. Some of them deserve your consideration!
