Episode VIII has begun.

The Fighting In The War Room podcast family acknowledges that Star Wars Mania is here to stay now that Disney-purchased Lucasfilm plans to spin the saga and anthology movies out into the foreseeable future. It’s time to fight in the galactic war room for the foreseeable future! We’ll never see STAR PEACE.

In the fifth Star Wars Special, Joanna Robinson, Matt Patches, Neil Miller and Da7e catch up on the Star Wars Universe news since they last convened in Episode 4. New York Toy Fair 2016 came and went without a bunch of Star Wars To-Do, but we did get a Force Friday 2016 announcement and a giant 16″ BB-8 that has Da7e excited. The Lego Star Wars Universe is expanding with both Resistance Rises shorts and a new Disney XD TV series, StarWars.com gave away the secrets of Rey’s portion bread and OH YEAH, EPISODE VIII: SPACE BEAR STARTED SHOOTING! Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran are added to the cast. We speculate on what that can be (SPECULATE, Episode VIII info is sparse) before jumping into the SPOILER section, which is choc-full of Rogue One goodness.

I find your lack of SPOILER faith disturbing! – Spoiler discussion starts at 45:39

Plus The Mermaid and a segment called “Alex Proyas: Good Director?”

Katey has disappeared to prepare for Oscar coverage, so Da7e, Patches and David strike up another Brocast. First, With Gods of Egypt coming to theaters this week, Patches wants to ask: “Alex Proyas: good director?” Then, David catches Patches and Da7e up on China’s newest theatrical sensation The Mermaid. Finally, the trio talk about some of the backlash recently against The Witch (which we discussed last episode) and debate the semantics of “scary” when it comes to horror film.

The Witch, Deadpool’s success, and a Listener-prompted segment!

Absent a Patches, Katey, Da7e and enemy of Fox news David Ehrlich are free to hear David’s thoughts on A24’s first wide release The Witch that comes out this Friday and discuss with Da7e how Deadpool could have become such a massive financial hit. Then, a comment on the Fighting In the War Room website requests the gang review what it’s like to try and be a critic these days, which leads to much reminiscing about how the three hosts got here in the first place.

And the Best Picture Oscar is still up for grabs.

This week, Katey, Patches, Da7e and David all watched the Broncos from Da7e’s home state of Colorado defeat the Carolina Panthers but were pretty disappointed in the way that 2016’s upcoming blockbuster movies were advertised, except for David, who liked the Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice Ads. Plus, David and Patches have seen Deadpool and give the film a mini-review, then Katey updates us on why the Best Picture Oscar is still anyone’s game.
