192 – Ratings, Star Trek Discovery, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri

billboards3

This week, David was at the Gotham Awards, so Katey, Da7e, and Patches round up to talk about the MPAA and Ratings because Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name are both R (and Patches thinks they're both good movies for late teens). Then, Patches and Da7e geek out about Star Trek Discovery for a breif moment as the first season is on a middle-break before all three hosts get into a good old-fashioned FITWR discussion about Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri – which all three of them liked…maybe.

This week, Katey watched Star Trek: Discovery and even got into CBS All Access to watch her first episode of television Star Trek. Dave and Patches also have thoughts. Then, Patches saw American Made (out this weekend) and David saw Super Dark Times (someplaces this weekend) and give us quick reviews. Finally, the Austin Film community deals with a crisis within itself during Fantastic Fest and the four hosts do their best to responsibly ponder how the greater film-fan community moves forward.

Plus: STAR TREK is coming back to sorta-TV

This week, Katey, Patches, David and Da7e ponder the announcement from this Monday that CBS is launching a new Star Trek TV series that will air on broadcast television before all new episodes being banished to a CBS pay for VOD service. This week also saw the conclusion of HBO’s Project Greenlight and the premiere of The Leisure Class leading Da7e and David to revisit their comments at the beginning of the series. Finally: the week we see SPECTRE the new James Bond movie which has us all wondering what makes the Bond franchise unique amongst all the film franchises of yesterday and today.
