146 – Fantastic Franchising and Awards Season Begins!

gg

This week, David is late to the podcast, so Katey and recently-married Matt Patches talk to Da7e about Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them spawning what's looking to be four additional films for Warner Bros' Wizarding World. Then, David gets to the podcast to talk about the Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life Netflix revival (and ending). Finally, when Patches was watching Lion, he realized Awards Season is finally upon us! It's time to start talking about nominess and good movies again!

Plus a "bad" mini segment

This week, Patches, Joanna, David and Da7e wake up to find themselves in a world where Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 & 2 is published Potter canon. Then, Patches wants to talk about the trend of "Bad" movies after disliking Bad Moms. The bulk of the podcast is spent debating just how much (if at all) a person can separate their politics from viewing and discussing a movie. It doesn't get super specific about the politics side, we know you hate it when we do that.

A GAME OF THRONES PODCAST THAT IS TALKING ABOUT OTHER GREAT POP CULTURE DURING THE OFF SEASON

With Joanna Robinson from Vanity Fair, Dave Gonzales from Geek.com and Neil Miller from Film School Rejects!

It's the first off season tour episode of A STORM OF SPOILERS! This week, our hosts will be discussing the Wizarding World of J.K. Rowling by talking about Harry Potter and the Curesed Child, Parts 1 & 2. Currently in previews and set to be released in book stores later this month, this "8th installment" in the Harry Potter story does some crazy things (by Harry Potter fan standards).

We will be talking about THIS plot summation from The Daily Beast (as well as any other things we've found around the internet).

If you want to wait until after the play is published on July 31st 2016, this episode can help you process your feels. If you're okay with being spoiled or already have opinions on this play: Proceed!

THIS WEEK'S TIMECODES:

0:00:00 – Intro and Game of Thrones News
0:07:19 – Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 & 2
1:24:52 – Ghostbusters preview.

And get out your sorting hat!

This week, Katey, Patches, David and Da7e stop to consider ACTUAL CANNIBAL Shia Labeouf, who just watched #AllMyMovies (well, his movies) at the Angelika in New York while a camera was pointed at him. Was this art? Are we feeling good about Shia now? Then, Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda has declared himself a Slytherin on Twitter so Katey asks Da7e if this is accurate, then tasks him with sorting the other hosts. Finally, three movies by female directors came out last week (The 33, Love the Coopers, By the Sea) and Katey only saw one of them. Does that make her a bad feminist? Does it make us bad critics? If we want more women directing big movies, do we have to turn out for every big movie that happens to have a woman as a director?
